The White Stuff

Monday, November 27, 2006

This is what we woke up to the other day. The snow started falling on Saturday and didn't seem to want to stop. Vancouver is really quite lovely when covered in a blanket of snow. We usually get our token few days of snowfall but not usually this early on in the season.

The kids are all loving it, understandably. Good thing we only live a few blocks from all of the necessities, since the car door was frozen shut today. Hopefully it will thaw quickly in the next few days.

Yeah for Free (Green) Publicity!!!

Sunday, November 19, 2006

Look what appeared in the weekend Sun! Yep, That's right, un-huh! In black and white, there is my coffee cozy, right above my name and my company for all to see! I am sooo excited! Chantal Eustace from the Vancouver Sun was interviewing the fabulous Sarah Murray last week of local Fashion High (BALLE BC) fame and low and behold, the coffee cozy became somewhat of a "natural celebrity" (pun intended!) The interview apparently became focussed on the cozy and Chantal being the auther of the green article persued it further with me. More info and photo went to her and the rest as they say, is HISTORY!

This will really advance my sales opportunities I believe as I am finally published in a mainstream daily publication. Like I said, yeah for green! publicity free!
I am just soaking it all in.
I am wondering who else might want one of these cozies? (not the people who are destined to get one for the holidays of course!)

Bring it on!

It seems I am in good company too, as other big names are sharing the limelight with me on this particular page. Jon Fluevog shoes and oqoqo are among the other big names in print. Not to mention the opposite page that discusses the mainstreaming of sustainability. Good to see more people are getting green.

Some Big Events

Wednesday, November 15, 2006

I have a few big things planned for the next little while. I am participating in a few events that are going on around town and thought people might like to know about them.
First, I am selling at Maternal Creations. It is a holiday market event put on at another visionary's place; Pomegranate Community Midwives. They are having a sale of local mom-made stuff on the 24th and 25th of November. It should be fun.

The very next day, I will be selling at an event in White Rock for home based businesses. I am extra excited about this event because local entrepreneur and mom Sandra Wilson is the main speaker. She is the founder of the uber-popular Robeez Footwear here in Burnaby and I think the event is sure to be well attended. I found out about it through BabyVibe where Kelley Scarsbrook had an article posted with home based business tips. Kelley is a mom and entrepreneur who is the mastermind behind this wonderful lunch and learn event.

So, I sew. Sewing lots to get ready for these two events, among the other mainy things I have going on. Is that the sound of holiday obligations I hear ringing in the background? No, I hope it"s just my phone!

My Designer Daughter

Saturday, November 11, 2006

Here is an example of my daughter's design work.

Isn't it great? I am so proud that she is so proud of what I do. When people ask her what she wants to be when she grows up she says a scientist and a designer. Who could ask for a better compliment than that?
This is a picture she drew onto paper with some crayons that are made for transferring onto fabric. It went on mostly well except for the part at the top of the head of the mermaid. But we both still absolutely love it.

Woo-Whoo! More Props!

So look at us! We are (almost) famous! Shared Vision Magazine has come out with their November issue after much anticipation and lookiloo who is in the Visionary section! I am so excited. Big thanks to Vanessa Richmond who interviewed me and wrote the article.
I also have an article and profile in the Re:connection Magazine that Nicole runs. More promo!!! It is expected to be up very soon (momentarily even) so check it out. This issue is all about Hemp and it's many benefits. Did I mention I wrote and article for it? Yay for me, my first forray into writing, for an actual audience even (other than you, my dear readers!).
I do have to say, at the risk of dating myself, "I love it when a plan comes together!"
On the homefront, everyone is battling the fall onslaught of illnesses. Yuck. Glad Hallowe'en is behind us now.
